How do you create AI ad variations you can actually learn from?
Build a controlled creative test with reusable product assets, three hooks, clear version names, and a practical comparison plan.

Start with one approved ad, choose a single variable, and create a small set of alternatives. Keep the other meaningful elements stable. Generating more ads is useful only if you know what each variation is meant to test.
For this tutorial, we'll make three opening hooks for the same illustrative Owala lifestyle campaign. This is a production and learning workflow, not a promise that AI-generated ads improve conversion.
You need one approved product visual, a script or headline, and a spreadsheet for tracking versions. Affogato can create the media; the test plan and results belong in your campaign workflow.
1. State a question before you create variants
Choose a question with a manageable scope: “Which opening makes this bottle feel relevant to a relaxed morning routine?”
Do not change the presenter, price, product, background, music, and opening line in the same comparison. If everything changes, you may identify a winning combination but learn little about why it won.
2. Write three hooks for the same message
Keep the body and call to action identical. Try these original openings:
- Version: H1 · Hook: “What belongs within reach on a slow morning?” · Idea being explored: Useful question
- Version: H2 · Hook: “Keep your everyday essentials close.” · Idea being explored: Routine and organization
- Version: H3 · Hook: “A slower morning starts with the basics.” · Idea being explored: Visual reset
For a real product, replace these with language supported by your brief. Avoid inserting an unverified statistic just to make an opening sound stronger.
3. Reuse the approved visual
Open the saved assets you used for the original ad. If you need a creator scene, use the same influencer and product reference in Influencer Studio. For the cleanest hook comparison, reuse the same approved video footage and change the opening narration or overlay during editing.

Supplied base visual: reuse this same image or approved clip when comparing three written hooks.

Supplied alternate visual: reserve it for a separate composition test.
The supplied chest-held and raised-bottle images can become a separate visual-opening experiment later. Keep the same script for that comparison. If you change both image and hook, describe the result as a concept test rather than attributing it solely to the words.
4. Generate only the parts that need to change
If the presenter speaks the hook on camera, generate the alternate spoken openings using the same voice and framing where supported. Then reuse the remaining body footage. Review the transition so the new opening does not create an obvious lighting or audio jump.
If the hook is a text overlay, you may not need any new generated footage. Put each headline onto a copy of the same edit. Add text in the editor so it stays legible and spelled correctly.
5. Name the versions so the comparison survives handoff
Use a filename such as bottle-morning-H1-v01. Record the hook, asset filenames, script, voice, output format, and generation settings in a spreadsheet. Add the final campaign identifier after upload.
Do not call three files “final,” “final-new,” and “final-final.” Clear names prevent the wrong voiceover or CTA from slipping into a comparison.
6. Define success before looking at results
Choose the metric that matches the campaign objective. Early-view retention can inform an opening test, while purchases or qualified leads address a different question. Compare delivery conditions, audience, placement, and spending alongside the creative results.
A tiny difference on a small sample is a reason to collect more evidence, not announce a universal winner. Use the ad platform's experimentation tools when available and keep your testing conditions comparable.
7. Expand the next round deliberately
Once you have enough evidence to choose a hook, keep it and test a new variable: presenter framing, product context, or the ending. Preserve a version of the previous baseline so you can see whether the next change helped.
Does Affogato run the ad test?
This guide uses Affogato for media production. Campaign launch, delivery, and performance measurement happen in your advertising tools. It does not assume an automatic campaign-optimization feature.
How many variants should you start with?
Three is a manageable starting plan for this tutorial, not a statistical requirement. Match the number to your production budget and ability to gather meaningful results.
Next step: create one approved base asset in Affogato and keep a record of generation costs as you expand.
